ScanPartner series lamp inverter assembly replacement procedure

Symptom: Dark streaks in the scanned image or scanner reports a lamp error.

This procedure would normally be performed by a service technician or in a repair depot environment. Although it requires a fairly major level of disassembly of the scanner, the steps are straight forward and will not interfere with the precision optics. It can be successfully completed by anyone with a little patience, a medium phillips head screwdriver (magnetized helps)  and the correct replacement part.

This procedure is provided as a service aid. CHA cannot accept liability for the failure of the operation, damage or injury which may occur as a result of the use of this information.

Where do I get a magnetic screwdriver?
You can magnetize any steel (non stainless)  screwdriver by taking a magnet and rubbing it a few times down the screwdriver shaft. You just need enough to get a screw to "stick" to the tool.

What is the correct lamp part number for my scanner?

(((((((( IMPORTANT )))))))

This equipment relies upon precision optic lenses and mirrors to function properly. While performing this procedure, the delicate area of the scanner will be exposed. It is VERY IMPORTANT that these components are not disturbed, dislodged, or contaminated. Remove ONLY the components described in this procedure.

It is also important to keep track of which screws go into which location of the scanner so they can be re-installed in their proper location. One method might be to print this procedure and set the screws on the pictures where they were located.

1 Turn off the scanner power and the connected computer. Unplug the AC power and interface cables from the scanner. Remove the output tray and remove the two screws on the rear of the ADF cover.
2 Remove the 8 screws shown securing the ADF cover to the ADF, and the ADF assembly to the scanner.
3 Remove the ADF cover and CAREFULLY remove the connector shown by gently rocking from side to side while pulling.

Remove the ADF assembly from the scanner and store it out of the way in a safe place. This is a delicate assembly. This is also a great time to inspect the rollers and pads and replace them if necessary.

4 Remove the 4 screws securing the top cover to the scanner.
5 Remove the two remaining screws securing the top cover and carefully remove the cover by lifting straight up. Carefully store the cover / glass assembly in a safe place.
6 Remove the two screws holding the CCD cover and carefully lift it from the scanner.
7 Disconnect the lamp power cable from the  CCD board. (the red and black cable) DO NOT LOOSEN OR DISTURB THE CCD! Remove the 3 screws securing the lamp / inverter assembly and lift it from the scanner.
8 Install the replacement lamp / inverter assembly and re-assemble the scanner in the reverse order. When installing the ADF cover be sure not to jam the paper input sensor lever under the cover. This will cause a constant paper jam condition to occur.  If the glass assembly has any dirt or smudging, now is a great time to clean it with a good glass cleaner and a lint free cloth.
